Technology: Recent Advancements 2

– Quantum Computing –

“The emergence of quantum computing signifies a pivotal change in the technological landscape. Unlike classical computers which use bits to process information, quantum computers utilize quantum bits or “qubits”. A bit holds one of two values: 0 or 1. Qubits, however, exploit a property of quantum mechanics named superposition, which allows them to be both 0 and 1 at the same time, enhancing computational power exponentially.

In practice, quantum computers offer the potential to solve problems conventional computers can’t. For instance, they could significantly speed up drug discovery, as they are more adept at modeling complex molecular structures.

Yet, these devices are not commonplace. They’re notoriously difficult and expensive to build and maintain, requiring environments close to absolute zero to function. Moreover, quantum information is highly susceptible to environmental disturbances, leading to frequent computational errors. This issue, known as “quantum decoherence”, is a major hurdle that scientists are striving to overcome. Nevertheless, the promise of quantum computing could redefine the horizons of what is computationally possible.”

Choose NO MORE THAN TWO words from the text for each answer.

  1. Quantum computing signifies a crucial _____ in the tech world.
  2. Unlike standard computers, quantum machines use quantum _____ to process data.
  3. The potential of quantum devices is to unravel problems conventional computers _____ to solve.
  4. They could notably _____ up drug discovery process.
  5. Quantum machines require conditions near absolute _____ to work efficiently.
  6. Scientists are making strides to conquer a major obstacle known as “quantum _____”.
Choose NO MORE THAN ONE word from the text for each answer.

Quantum computing, unlike its traditional counterparts that use bits, operates with quantum bits or “_____” This groundbreaking _____ could address challenges that conventional computers fail to. Particularly in drug _____ , it could substantially hasten the process. However, these devices are challenging to construct and maintain, necessitating environments nearly at absolute _____ to function efficiently. Furthermore, they grapple with a key obstacle, “quantum _____”, a prevalent issue due to environmental disturbances leading to computational _____
