Daily IELTS Answers – A Beautiful Sky – Part 2 (Band 8.0)

Describe a beautiful sunset you saw.
You can say:
- where you were
- what you were doing
- who you were with
- and how you felt about it

“I wanna talk about the beautiful sky that I actually witnessed in the evening just gone. So because I had been suffering from headaches for 2 or 3 days, I felt the need to go to the pharmacy to get some paracetamol. It was about 5PM and the sky was getting darker and it was a grey day, so I didn’t really pay attention to the weather very much, I rushed into the pharmacy, but on my way home I glanced up at the sky and I noticed that with the greyish sky, there were huge, fluffy clouds like the Michelin man stretching across the whole sky. There were voluminous clouds bathed in flaring orange. It was simply fascinating, I couldn’t help but stop. When I was about to take out my mobile to take some shots, I realised I had forgotten to bring my mobile. So I regret not taking my phone with me, but anyway, I enjoyed the moment and enjoyed sky-gazing. I’ve always liked watching the sky, and that’s why I have come across magical sunsets like this several times.”

Adverb: just gone – the previous / the most recent one – “We went on Saturday just gone.”
Verb: rush – move quickly
Collocation: bathe in [colour] – The sky was bathed in orange and pink.”
Grammar: I had forgotten… to feed the cat / to take out the bins / to vote in the election.
Collocation: magical sunsets / breathtaking sunsets
