Daily IELTS Answer: Jeans (Band 7.5 – Part 1)
1. Do you like to wear jeans?
I think so, however I’m not sure whether it’s very functional and versatile or can be worn on any kind of occasion or I simply love them. I means that I wear them all year round and day in day out.
- Adjective: versatile – flexible, or usable in many different situations
- Phrase: all year round – in all seasons
- Phrase: day in, day out – every day / daily
2. Why are jeans so popular?
Well, I don’t really know whether people love wearing jeans but I guess because as I said they are versatile, so I think most people are like me, they wear them because they are very convenient and don’t want to spend time mixing and matching what they are going to wear. They can just throw them on.
- Phrase: mix and match – coordinate clothes or colours
- Phrasal Verb: throw [smth] on – quickly put on clothes without planning or thinking about your appearance
3. Would you buy an expensive pair of jeans?
I’m not sure I would, but I definitely did when I was in my 20s because jeans can be really trendy, chic and slimming as well. As a young girl at the time, I cared a lot about how I looked so I did invest a huge amount of money in buying several expensive [designer] jeans.
- Adjective: chic – stylish, fashionable
- Adjective: slimming – making the wearer look thinner, slimmer
