Daily IELTS Answers – Patience – (Part 1 – Band 7.5)

1. Are you a patient person?

It depends. If the person that I talk to can understand me and get what I mean quickly, then I tend to be more patient with people like this. But if people aren’t willing to be a good listener and try to cut me off, then it’s easy to lose my patience with these people.
  • Collocation: You can lose your patience with people
  • Preposition: Be patient with someone / something
  • Phrasal Verb: cut someone off – to interrupt someone

2. Have you ever lost your patience with someone?

Yes actually quite often when I teach, because I’m a teacher and when I teach I will not only tell them the principles to follow but also demonstrate how they should incorporate those principles into their speaking a job interview skills, and when they can’t apply what I’ve shown them and they repeat the same mistakes over and over again. then I sometimes run out of patience. I’m only human!
  • Collocation: you can incorporate a principle
  • Collocation: you can demonstrate a principle
  • Collocation: You can run out of patience with someone.

3. Did you used to be more patience when you were younger, compared to now?

Let me think about it, I think yes because when I was younger, when I was in high school, I used to be more obedient to my mum, so I would try to follow do what she told me, and I think that’s when I was being really patient, but after going to university, I think it was my desire to grow and become an adult so I developed strong opinions about things and I have become less patient with people who don’t see eye-to-eye with me.
  • Collocation: you can develop an opinion
  • Expression: see eye-to-eye with someone = agree with someone’s opinion or attitude towards something

4. What do you do while you’re waiting for something?

I think most people are on their mobile phones all the time and I’m no exception, so whenever I go out I always listen to the news on YouTube or some English lessons, some TEDTalks, so it’s actually not about when I am waiting for something or not, it’s more like a habit – it has become a habit that I am on my phone listening to something all the time.
