Daily IELTS Answer: Hair & Hairstyles – (Band 6.5 – Part 1)
1. How often do you get your haircut?
“Since I came to Saudi Arabia, it’s rare for me to cut my hair I just do it because it’s difficult to find a salon and it’s very expensive.”
2. Have you ever changed your hair colour?
“Actually, I never did, because I’ve learnt from others that dying their hair, the chemicals will affect the hair itself and it’ll cause baldness.”
- Verb: You can dye (v.) your hair
- Noun: You can buy dye (n.) in the shop
- I have never dyed (past) my hair before.
- Noun: baldness (n.) – hair loss, or having no hair on your head anymore
3. Have you ever had a haircut that you didn’t like?
“Yes, I did when I was young. I had this boy cut, it was done by my cousin who just played with my hair and my father got angry and punished both of us.”
- Phrase: boy cut – a short, neat haircut usually given to boys or young men
- Collocation: my hair was done by someone – When someone cuts, styles, dyes or changes you hair. We can use the verb ‘do’. – “I did my sister’s hair for her wedding.”
