Do you eat much foreign food as a child?
“When I was a kid I didn’t eat it at all, foreign food was the food my neighbours would cook, it was never from another culture or a country. I only started to eat foreign food when I was literally in another country.”
Do you like trying new food?
“I’ve always loved trying new food, but I think I’m a little more afraid about it. Because in Germany there are some [local dishes] that are a little bit disgusting for me. And I’ve already tried them so I wouldn’t try them again. I don’t want to know how they make them. However, I do like to try new food when we are in a new country.”
+Collocation: local dishes – meals and food specific to one country
+Vocab: squeamish (adj.) – afraid of unusual or strange food
Will foreign food keep growing in popularity in the future?
“I hope it will. I think it’s a good mixing of cultures and food is something important for every culture so I think it’s important to create some bonds between the foreigners who live in our countries. It has already begun in Brazil so I think it’s going to grow and grow with the times. It’s going to become more and more normal in daily life.”
+Collocation: create some bonds – form or establish a relationship with something else
