IELTS Task 1 Essay Sample
It’s important for me to tell you that this is NOT an exam condition essay. I decided to take some extra time to show you a really wide range of vocabulary, which you can see on the right side.
As you can see, there are quite a lot of ‘differences’ vocab items. In IELTS Task 1 if you simply list and describe every data point without comparing them, you are leaving points for Task Achievement and Coherence & Cohesion on the table.
Try to talk about the relationship the statistics have with each other. In this essay:
– I contrasted Denmark with Kenya (highest vs lowest)
– I mentioned a unique data point (the USA)
– I grouped AUS, NL, UK and DK together (similar).
– I compared China’s family size to the European nations (similar)
Different students might see different relationships. That’s totally fine! Just describe your similarities and contrasts with correct data and grammar and you will score points.
Do you know any more linking words to describe similar or contrasting data?
