IELTS Speaking Part 2 & 3

Part 2 & 3 – A traditional festival – (May ~ Dec 2023)

Part 2 –

60 seconds to prepare 📝
2 minutes to answer 🗣️

  • Describe a traditional festival in your country
    You can say:
    – what the festival is
    – when and where it is held
    – what happens at the festival
    – and say if you enjoy the festival

One traditional festival in my country is the Chinese New Year. It usually falls between late January and mid-February and is celebrated all over the country. The biggest celebration takes place in Chinatown in the capital city.

During the festival, there are many activities and customs, such as decorating the house with red lanterns and couplets, having a family reunion dinner, and giving red envelopes filled with money to children. There are also dragon and lion dances in the streets, and people set off firecrackers to scare away evil spirits.

I really enjoy this festival because it’s a time for families to come together and celebrate. The decorations and colors are so vibrant and cheerful, and there’s always a lot of delicious food to eat. I especially love the dragon and lion dances, which are so energetic and exciting to watch.
