2 minutes to answer 🗣️

  • Describe a time when you used a map
    You can say:
    – where you were
    – when it happened
    – why you needed to use a map
    – and how you felt about the experience

A few years ago, during a summer trip to Italy, I found myself in the need of using a map in the ancient city of Rome. This happened on a warm July day when the city was bustling with tourists and the air was filled with the scent of espresso and freshly baked pizza.

My goal was to find the Pantheon, an architectural marvel, without the aid of modern technology. I wanted to experience the city as travelers did in the past, navigating through its winding streets with nothing but a paper map. This decision came out of a desire to immerse myself fully in the historical ambiance of Rome, to feel its history beneath my feet and decipher its stories hidden in plain sight.

As I unfolded the map, a sense of adventure washed over me. The streets of Rome are a labyrinth of history and mystery, and having only a map to guide me was both thrilling and daunting. Each turn I took was a leap of faith, trusting the map’s guidance and my interpretation of it.

Eventually, after several missteps and detours, the majestic Pantheon emerged before me, its grandeur even more rewarding after the effort it took to find it. The experience of using a map in Rome was exhilarating and humbling, reminding me of the beauty of exploring and the joys of discovery. It was a vivid reminder that sometimes, taking the old-fashioned route can lead to the most unforgettable adventures.
