IELTS Vocabulary – Eating Out

Watch and learn new IELTS vocabulary about Eating Out from a native English speaker.

Vocabulary:

Adjectives: 

  • unwilling – not ready, eager, or prepared to do something.
  • tempting – appealing to or attracting someone, even if wrong or unwise.
    “a tempting financial offer”
  • luxurious – extremely comfortable or elegant, especially when involving great expense.
    “the island’s most luxurious hotel”
  • decent – of an acceptable standard; satisfactory.
    “people need decent homes”
  • exotic – originating in or characteristic of a distant foreign country.
    “exotic birds”

Collocations: 

  • variety on offer – amount of things available to buy or try
  • the sheer amount – used to emphasize the large amount, size, or degree of something.
    “The sheer amount of work was staggering”
  • disposable income – income remaining after deduction of taxes and social security charges, available to be spent or saved as one wishes.
  • and so on – and similar things; et cetera.
    “these savouries include cheeses, cold meats, and so on”

Nouns: 

  • diners – people who dine / eat in restaurants
  • high street – the main street of a town, especially as the traditional site for most shops, banks, and other businesses.
  • temptations – a thing that attracts or tempts someone.
    “the temptations of life in London”
