IELTS Lesson – How to Start Part 2 Answers

One way to demonstrate your lexical range (vocabulary) is by paraphrasing. (i.e. using different words with the same meaning) 

At the beginning of your Part 2 you can paraphrase the cue card in your first or second sentence. 

BUT! You can also boost your Grammatical Range score by using a different grammar tense from most students: The Present Perfect.

Christmas is one of the biggest gift-giving holidays in the world. But how much are people spending on their gifts now? According to this article, people are spending double on gifts compared to just 10 years ago! Is this happening in your country as well?

Putting it all together:

Part 2 Cue Card:

  • Describe a gift that you gave to someone else.
    You can say:
    • What it was
    • Where you found it
    • Who you gave the gift to
    • And how you felt about giving the gift
  • Describe an item of clothing you received as a gift
    You can say:
    • When you received the clothes
    • What kind of clothes they were
    • Who gave it to you
    • And explain how you felt about it

Part 3: 

  • Is the price of a gift important?
  • Do you like giving gifts?
  • Why do people give gifts?
  • What gifts would parents give to children?
  • What factors do parents consider when choosing a gift for their children?
  • Why do companies give away free gifts?
  • Have you ever received a hand-made gift from someone?
  • Is the act of gift-giving an important one in your country?
  • Do men and women have the same attitude to buying gifts?
  • Is it better to give practical gifts?
  • What gifts are popular in your country?
  • Why is it sometimes difficult to find a gift for someone?
