Daily IELTS Answer: Social Networks (Band 7.0 – Part 1)

1. What kinds of social networks do you like to use?

I know there are lots of social media platforms nowadays but I usually use Facebook because all my friends have an account on Facebook.

Prep: on WhatsApp / On social media / on the internet/ on Facebook

2. What kind of chatting apps or software do people in your country like to use?

As per my understanding, Whatsapp is the most popular app that we use for chatting in HK. WeChat is more popular for chatting to Mainlanders, but in HK usually use Whatsapp.

Vocab: People from Mainland China = Mainlanders
- He is a mainlander / There are lots of mainlanders here in HK.

3. Are you a social person?

I don’t think so, I feel shy at the beginning with the people that I don’t know I need some time to warm up and sometimes I feel embarrassed to start a conversation with a stranger.

Vocab: Shy = Introverted (Adj.)

4. Is it easy to find real friends on social networks?

I think it is, as nowadays there are many criminals (scammers / fraudsters) and you have to be very careful [while] chatting to someone you don’t know because you don’t want to lose any money or your [personal information] so it’s difficult to find a real friend on the internet.

Vocab: criminals (scammers / fraudsters) = people
Expression: You have to exercise (v.) caution (You have to be careful)

The best way is immersion (n.) – ‘Immersion’ means completely surrounding yourself with another language or culture, in order to help you learn faster.
