Daily IELTS Answer: Perfume (Band 7.0 – Part 1)
1. Do you wear perfume?
No I never wear perfume because it makes me uncomfortable and the strong smells (make) give me a headache.
- Vocab: smells (n.) – negative – a bad smell or odour
2. Have you ever bought perfume as a gift for someone else?
Yes of course. Some of my friends [like to wear] perfume so when it’s their birthday I will buy perfume as a birthday gift.
- Collocation: You can wear perfume (like clothes)
3. Are there any kids of perfume you do like?
As I don’t wear perfume, I don’t have any preference.
- Vocab: As – can also be a conjunction like ‘Because’ or ‘Since’.
- IELTS Tip: It’s okay to be honest about yourself, especially in Part 1. You don’t have to pretend you like something to make a longer answer. As long as your English is correct you can say anything.
4. Do you think people spend too much money on perfumes?
Yes I think so because some perfume is only like 30ml which costs a few hundred dollars, I think it’s expensive stuff which is not necessary. So I think people spend too much on it especially when they just use a little bit of it and they will buy a new one when there’s a new edition on the market.
- Grammar: Perfume is uncountable, so you can say: “A little bit of / Some / A lot of / Much.”
- Vocab: Perfumes and aftershaves have editions, which are new types
- Preposition: A product is on the market.
