Do people in France like to take photos of themselves?

“I think French people aren’t different from the rest, since the smartphone with a camera was introduced. Proof of that is just looking at my friends on social media. I can see that they post more and more pictures of themselves. So I think they like to, but I can’t say it’s specific to France.“

Why do people like to keep photo albums?

“The reasons they keep albums is for the memories. They captured a moment and they want to remember, they don’t want to forget a part of their history, and the great moments they experienced (v.). It’s a form of a nostalgia.”
+Vocab: nostalgia (n.) – longing or wistful affection for a period in the past – “I was overcome with acute nostalgia for my days at university”
+Collocation: memories fade – “They keep their photos to stop their memories fading away.”

Why do some people delete a lot of photos?

“One reason I can think of is that they don’t want to be overloaded with memories. In my experience, sometimes you just keep a collection of digital photos, like terabytes of photos that you’ll never look at again. So at some point, people become away that it’s not a reasonable quantity of photos so they delete and stick to their favourites.”
+Collocation: stick to favourites – “I don’t often listen to new bands or songs, so I just stick to my favourites when I go on Spotify.”
