Daily IELTS Answer – Elderly People (Band 6.5)

Why do some older people only remember happy things?

“I think that‘s one of the benefits of human beings, by forgetting negative or sad things in our lives, we can survive instead of thinking about the depressing and sad things over and over again. And I think when people get old, even if it’s sad or depressing, it doesn’t matter to them, because as time passes, [they can move on] from almost every tragedy in their life.”

What can young people learn from older people?

I think nowadays, the young Korean generation definitely needs to learn spirituality from older people, because they’ve never been through war or difficult times, and they’ve been through all the difficult moments in history and they made the country richer, but they never complained, but they just hung in there for a long time and tried to make better conditions for their family and country. That’s impressive, and something we can learn from, because these days, the young generation are [very sensitive] and [can’t cope with pressure] / [give up at the first hurdle].
