Do you think that competition can be useful in the workplace?

J: “There are jobs more prone to teamwork, while others require for individual work. If you a stockbroker, you could do your work individually, whereas if you work on a farm, taking care of animals, you need a team who works together with the same objective and pulling in the same direction. I think companies which have a common project must be careful about the levels of competition because if a member of the project tries to compete with each other, it could diminish the companies performance.”

D: “I think jobs in hospitals, charities should involve competition because their jobs are always the same because of involves the health of people. You’re not selling products, it involves people’s lives, so they shouldn’t compete with other.it could be, but not to extreme levels. There could be some competition between these jobs, but more in a good way. So if a school is proud of the way they teach their kids, that’s good, but shouldn’t keep this to themselves, maybe they should try to be pioneers.”

Are there many competitive shows on TV nowadays?

J: “I actually haven’t watched much TV for 5 or 6 years. There is one I remember, a game show where you answer questions and win money by answering questions correctly. It’s a competition against yourself. There is another game where they are selecting challenges, like maths, and the best one keeps the money. There were some programmes that were quite popular, 5 or 6 years ago. But I can’t comment today.”
